Brigitte Bardot, the legendary French actress who became a global symbol of sensuality and later devoted her life to animal welfare activism, has died at the age of 90, according to French media reports.

Born on September 28, 1934, in Paris, Bardot rose to international fame in the 1950s and 1960s with films such as "And God Created Woman" (1956), which scandalized audiences and made her an international sex symbol. Her distinctive pout and blonde bouffant hairstyle defined an era of glamour.

At the height of her career, Bardot was one of the most photographed women in the world. However, in 1973, she abruptly retired from acting at just 39 years old to dedicate herself full-time to animal rights causes.

She founded the Brigitte Bardot Foundation for the Welfare and Protection of Animals in 1986, which has since become one of France's leading animal welfare organizations, campaigning against fur farming, seal hunting, and bullfighting.

French President Emmanuel Macron and celebrities worldwide have paid tribute to the actress who embodied French cinema's golden age. Her foundation confirmed she passed away peacefully at her home in Saint-Tropez, the coastal town she helped transform into a jet-set destination.
