Everton owners explore sale of controlling stake less than two years after takeover

Everton’s owners are considering selling a controlling stake in the English Premier League club, according to a club statement issued on October 9. The Friedkin Group said it was exploring investment options and had retained Moelis & Company. The announcement concerns a possible ownership change; it does not confirm an agreed sale.

The US-based group acquired Everton from Farhad Moshiri in December 2024, Reuters reported, placing the new review less than two years after that takeover. During its ownership, the Liverpool club has moved into Hill Dickinson Stadium. Reuters said the group had also worked to improve Everton’s financial position.

In its statement, the group said Everton faced substantial financial uncertainty when it took control. It described stability, investment and support for the club’s future as its initial priorities, including helping complete the long-promised stadium. The owners now regard that foundation as secure enough to consider a new phase.

The group said it would consider interest only from parties it believed could responsibly guide Everton and build on the progress made. This makes the suitability of prospective investors part of the stated process. The announcement does not identify a buyer, disclose a proposed price or set a completion date.

For supporters, the owners’ stated commitment during the review is continued backing for success on the pitch and work in the communities served by the club. The group said those priorities would remain in place throughout the process. These are commitments from the current owners, rather than guarantees from a future investor.

Moelis & Company will advise the group as it examines its options. Everton and its owners said they would make no further comment while that work proceeds. Whether the process produces new investment, a transfer of control or another outcome therefore remains unresolved in the announcement.
