American streaming sensation Darren Jason Watkins Jr., known globally as IShowSpeed, was forced to evacuate the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Baraki, Algiers on January 17, 2026 after fans threw water bottles and other projectiles in his direction during the Algerian Super Cup match between MC Alger and USM Alger. The incident occurred while the streamer was broadcasting live to an audience of approximately 49 million viewers worldwide as part of his ongoing Africa Tour.
The situation deteriorated rapidly when IShowSpeed attempted to approach the stands to capture the electric atmosphere of the Algiers derby for his global audience. Supporters in the stadium began throwing water bottles at the content creator while demanding that he stop filming. Faced with this unexpected and growing hostility, the 20-year-old streamer had no choice but to hastily leave the premises, visibly shaken and upset by the rejection.
In footage captured during his livestream, IShowSpeed was heard asking why did they do this to me, adding that he did not understand and felt unwanted at the venue. He expressed his confusion, noting that his fans in Algeria had shown him so much love during his visit but something different happened inside the stadium. He emphasized that he was simply there to watch a football match and share the experience with his viewers.
The incident represents a stark contrast to the warm welcome IShowSpeed had received elsewhere in Algeria during his tour. Prior to attending the Super Cup, the streamer had explored the stunning dunes of Djanet and the Algerian Sahara desert, and had visited the historic Great Mosque of Algiers where he was greeted enthusiastically by local fans in the streets of the capital city.
Despite the unfortunate incident involving the visiting streamer, the match itself proceeded with MC Alger claiming victory thanks to a 74th minute goal by Naidji. A free kick from the left wing found the head of the striker, whose header took a slight deflection that left USM Alger goalkeeper Oussama Benbot helpless as the ball bounced past him. The triumph secured MC Alger their fifth Algerian Super Cup title, adding to their previous victories in 2006, 2007, 2014, and 2024.
