Malaysia has announced the resumption of the search for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, which disappeared on March 8, 2014, with 239 people on board. The search, conducted by marine robotics company Ocean Infinity, begins today.
The Search Parameters
Ocean Infinity will conduct a 55-day underwater search in a targeted area of the southern Indian Ocean. The operation is being carried out under the company's existing "no-find, no-fee" agreement with the Malaysian government, meaning payment will only be made if the wreckage is located.
One of Aviation's Greatest Mysteries
The disappearance of MH370 remains one of the greatest mysteries in aviation history. The Boeing 777, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, vanished from radar less than an hour after takeoff. Despite extensive searches covering vast areas of the Indian Ocean, only scattered debris has been found washed up on beaches in the western Indian Ocean.
New Hope for Families
For the families of the 239 passengers and crew members, the renewed search offers a glimmer of hope for closure after more than a decade of uncertainty. Many have campaigned tirelessly for authorities to continue the search.
