New Zealand defeated Jamaica 56-48 in the Commonwealth Games netball final in Glasgow on Sunday, reclaiming the title after a 16-year wait. The Silver Ferns completed an unbeaten tournament at the Hydro and secured their third Commonwealth gold, while Jamaica took silver for the second successive Games, according to official results published by World Netball.
The finalists had already met during the pool stage, when New Zealand prevailed 53-48 in a contest that remained close until the final minutes. That victory helped the Silver Ferns finish at the top of their group. They later beat England 61-54 in Saturday's first semifinal, creating an opportunity to regain a crown they last held in Delhi in 2010.
Jamaica reached the deciding match by eliminating defending champion Australia 46-45 in the other semifinal. The one-goal upset gave the Sunshine Girls another chance to pursue their first Commonwealth netball title after they also finished as runners-up to Australia in Birmingham in 2022. In Sunday's rematch with New Zealand, however, the Silver Ferns widened the five-goal margin from their pool encounter to eight.
World Netball's competition record shows that New Zealand previously won the Commonwealth title in 2006 and 2010. Australia captured the next two editions in 2014 and 2022, with England winning on home soil at the 2018 Gold Coast Games. The Glasgow result therefore ends New Zealand's longest gap between Commonwealth netball titles and makes the country the first three-time champion other than Australia.
Australia recovered from its semifinal defeat to beat England 68-50 in Sunday's bronze-medal match. The medal games closed a 12-team competition that began on July 25 and formed part of the final day of Glasgow 2026. Netball will remain on the Commonwealth Games programme in Ahmedabad in 2030, where New Zealand will have the opportunity to defend the title and Jamaica will renew its pursuit of a first gold.
