Pixxel Raises $100 Million to Expand Earth Observation Platform

Indian space-technology company Pixxel said on Monday, September 7, that it had closed a $100 million Series C round to expand its satellite, software and manufacturing operations. Singapore state investor Temasek and British specialist investor Seraphim co-led the financing, which Pixxel and Reuters described as the largest single funding round completed by an Indian space-technology company.

The round lifts the Bengaluru- and Los Angeles-based company's total funding to $195 million. New investors 360 ONE Asset and South Korea's IMM Investment participated alongside existing backers Radical Ventures, growX Ventures and others. Pixxel did not disclose a valuation, while The Next Web noted that earlier investor Google was not listed as a participant in this round.

Pixxel began by developing hyperspectral satellites, which divide reflected light into hundreds of narrow bands and can identify material signatures that conventional images may miss. The company says those observations can support agriculture, forestry, mining, energy, environmental monitoring, disaster response and national security. It has deployed six Firefly satellites over the past two years and operates Aurora, software designed to combine imagery and convert it into usable analysis.

The company said the new capital will fund its next-generation Honeybee hyperspectral constellation, including shortwave-infrared sensing, as well as synthetic-aperture radar and ultra-high-resolution optical imaging. Pixxel expects the first Honeybee satellite to launch in 2027. It also plans to develop Aurora further and increase satellite production capacity in India and the United States.

Pixxel has contracts with NASA and the US National Reconnaissance Office, and it has won Indian Defence Ministry innovation challenges. A Pixxel-led consortium has also been selected by Indian space regulator IN-SPACe to develop a 12-satellite public-private Earth-observation constellation. Founder and chief executive Awais Ahmed said in paraphrased remarks that the financing would help turn the company's original planetary-monitoring concept into a broader infrastructure combining sensing, intelligence and sovereign capability.

The investment gives Pixxel more resources to compete in a market where governments and businesses increasingly seek timely environmental and security data. Seraphim chief executive Mark Boggett said the company sits at the intersection of AI-supported Earth observation, sovereign space capacity and India's growing commercial space sector. The first Honeybee launch in 2027, progress on the national constellation and execution of the planned manufacturing expansion will be the next tests of that strategy.
