Raúl Fernández won the British MotoGP at Silverstone on Sunday, August 9, delivering a commanding ride for the Trackhouse team and leading an all-Aprilia podium. The Spaniard completed the race in 39 minutes 45.930 seconds, finishing 2.538 seconds ahead of championship leader Jorge Martín, while Marco Bezzecchi took third at 3.393 seconds.
Fernández started second and seized the lead after Martín encountered a problem with his rear ride-height device at the launch and lost several positions. Reports from AS and Cadena SER said Fernández immediately converted that opening into an advantage, leading by 1.1 seconds after the first lap and by more than four seconds after eight laps.
The 25-year-old controlled the gap for the remainder of the race and secured the second grand prix victory of his MotoGP career. El País reported that the result also completed a third consecutive Sunday podium for Fernández, days after Trackhouse confirmed a two-year contract extension that will keep him with the American-owned team.
Martín recovered to pass Bezzecchi and finish second, strengthening his championship lead. Bezzecchi resisted a late challenge from Álex Márquez to preserve Aprilia's sweep, with Márquez fourth, Pedro Acosta fifth and Fabio Di Giannantonio sixth. Marc Márquez finished seventh after losing ground during the race.
Several riders failed to finish in a crash-heavy contest. Cadena SER and AS listed Ai Ogura, Francesco Bagnaia, Joan Mir, Enea Bastianini, Iker Lecuona, Cal Crutchlow and Álex Rins among the fallers or retirements. Ogura's exit while running near the leading group cost him second place in the championship standings.
Martín now leads the riders' championship with 240 points, 31 ahead of Bezzecchi on 209. Ogura is third with 203, Marc Márquez fourth with 200, and Fernández rises to sixth on 184. The result underlined Aprilia's current strength while leaving the title contest open with ten scheduled rounds remaining.
