Steven Soderbergh will help finish filming The Batman Part II while Matt Reeves attends to a family matter, according to studio statements reported by Variety and PTI. The October 16 reports describe an arrangement backed by DC Studios to complete the final weeks of principal photography, with Robert Pattinson returning as Batman.
Warner Bros. and DC Studios announced a production pause earlier in October. Film Stories reports that filming began in London in June and that Soderbergh will remain in contact with Reeves as he completes the shoot in Britain. The statements describe the reason for Reeves' absence only as a family matter.
According to the studio, Soderbergh approached Reeves with an offer to help. The two directors will work with the actors and crew to carry out Reeves' vision. Soderbergh said his aim was to produce material that fits the footage already shot, allowing Reeves to finish his film, Variety reported.
Reeves separately said on X that he was staying with the project and thanked Soderbergh for helping during a difficult time, according to PTI. He also thanked people for their concern and good wishes. His statement clarifies that the assistance with filming does not mean he is departing the sequel.
The production brings together Pattinson, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis and Jeffrey Wright, Variety reported. PTI noted that the first film opened in March 2022 and earned more than $770 million worldwide. Soderbergh's credits include Traffic, which earned him the directing Oscar, and Ocean's Eleven.
The next step is completing the remaining shoot under the collaborative arrangement described by the studio. The sequel has already faced several release delays and is scheduled for February 2028, according to Variety and PTI. The statements focus on preserving continuity with Reeves' work as production moves toward completion.
