Meteo-France has issued a red alert for the Manche department as Storm Goretti approaches western France, with wind gusts potentially reaching 160 km/h overnight Thursday to Friday.
Unprecedented Wind Warning
The red alert will be in effect from 9 PM to 3 AM, while 29 additional departments across northwestern France—including all of Brittany, Normandy, Ile-de-France, and Hauts-de-France—have been placed under orange alert for dangerous winds.
Paris Region on High Alert
In the Paris region, sustained wind gusts of 90-100 km/h are expected over several hours, according to Meteo-France forecasters. Residents are advised to secure loose objects and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm's passage.
Alpine Regions Face Snow Hazards
Meanwhile, three Alpine departments—Vaucluse, Savoie, and Haute-Savoie—remain under orange alert for snow and ice. A weather system is expected to bring heavy snowfall to the northern Alps, with significant accumulation at lower altitudes.
Central France Downgraded
Departments around the Massif Central, including Aveyron, Lot, Cantal, Correze, Puy-de-Dome, Creuse, and Haute-Vienne, have been downgraded to yellow alert as the immediate threat has diminished.
