Street Fighter led the North American box office with an estimated $31 million over the October 16–18 weekend, while the Elizabeth Holmes documentary You Can See Everything debuted in second place with $15 million. The Associated Press and TheWrap reported the results on Sunday, October 18, citing weekend estimates.
Paramount’s video game adaptation earned about $51 million worldwide, including roughly $20 million outside North America. AP reported that it played in 3,575 domestic theaters. TheWrap put the production budget at $82 million and identified Legendary and game publisher Capcom as the film’s production partners.
A24’s You Can See Everything reached its $15 million total on just 855 screens. AP, citing the distributor, reported more than 2,000 sold-out screenings. Directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, the nearly three-hour documentary follows the Theranos founder before she reported to federal prison.
The competing survival thriller Whalefall opened with $8 million in the United States and Canada and $17.5 million worldwide, according to both outlets. TheWrap reported a $60 million production budget for the film, which stars Austin Abrams as a diver swallowed by a whale. Its opening came despite generally favorable reviews.
The results placed a documentary ahead of a substantially more expensive studio release. TheWrap reported that Street Fighter received a B- CinemaScore from audiences, while Whalefall received a B. Those opening-weekend audience measures accompany the initial ticket sales and do not establish how either film will perform over its full theatrical run.
The figures remain preliminary: AP said final domestic totals were due Monday. TheWrap reported that Street Fighter faces fresh competition the following weekend from Warner Bros. and DC’s Clayface, making the next round of ticket sales an important test of its ability to sustain attendance.
