Taylor Swift scores UK chart double as Patient Zero debuts at number one

Taylor Swift topped both main UK music charts on October 2, with Patient Zero entering at number one and The Life of a Showgirl returning to the album summit. The Official Charts Company confirmed the results, also reported by Billboard and PA Media, after the release of the expanded The Encore edition.

Billboard reported that the expanded album arrived on September 25 with four additional songs: Patient Zero, Cleveland!, Pink Clouding and Babylon. The new chart results follow that release and arrive just before the first anniversary of the original album, which came out on October 3, 2025.

According to the Official Charts Company, Patient Zero is Swift’s eighth UK number one single and her third in 2026, after Opalite and the Toy Story 5 song I Knew It, I Knew You. She is the first artist to reach three UK singles chart toppers this year, and this is her first year achieving that total.

The official singles table also places Cleveland at number three and Babylon at number four on their debuts. Swift therefore holds three of the top five positions. Patient Zero joins The Fate Of Ophelia and Opalite as UK number ones from The Life of a Showgirl, her first album to generate three such hits.

The album now has five non-consecutive weeks at number one, the chart compiler said. Swift has achieved the album-and-single double with five distinct pairings, in every calendar year since 2022. She also has 14 UK number one albums, the highest total for a female artist in the official album chart’s history.

The published singles and albums tables cover October 2 to October 8. They establish the expanded release’s initial UK chart positions; any further weeks at the top will depend on subsequent results. For now, the confirmed outcome is a simultaneous singles and albums lead for Swift as the original record reaches its first anniversary.
