Typhoon Champi left one person dead and 616 injured in Taiwan, the Central News Agency reported on October 24, citing the emergency operations centre. The toll, recorded at 4:30 p.m. local time, rose from the 527 injuries reported earlier by Reuters. Most injuries were minor; 486 patients had left hospital.

The man who died was swept away by waves at a beach in Liuqiu, Pingtung county, according to the centre. Reuters reported that strong winds and rain brought down trees, cut electricity and disrupted travel as the storm swept past Taiwan. Parts of northern and central Taiwan kept schools and offices closed for a second day.

CNA reported more than 340,000 households lost power during the storm, with over 22,000 still awaiting repairs in the afternoon tally. Authorities had recorded 9,027 damage incidents, including fallen trees, power lines and signs; 3,146 remained under response. Almost 5,000 people had been evacuated by 4 p.m.

Transport disruption extended beyond flights. Taiwan's Maritime and Port Bureau said in its 10 a.m. bulletin that 84 sailings on six routes were cancelled because of the weather, including services to Liuqiu and Green Island. It urged people to avoid island trips during the typhoon because suspended boats could leave them stranded.

The weather administration lifted the land warning in the afternoon and the sea warning at 8:30 p.m., according to CNA and the national disaster research centre. Its final bulletin still warned of heavy rain and landslide risks into Sunday, and waves of three to five metres along the northern coast overnight. Authorities advised against seaside activities as the weakening storm moved away.
