Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky traveled to Florida on Sunday for high-stakes talks with U.S. President Donald Trump, seeking to negotiate an end to the nearly three-year war with Russia.
The meeting comes just one day after Russia launched one of its most devastating attacks on Kyiv this year, killing at least two people and leaving more than 40% of the capital without heating in freezing temperatures. The assault involved 519 drones and 40 missiles over nearly 10 hours.
Before departing, Zelensky called Russian President Vladimir Putin a "man of war" and expressed optimism about the talks, stating he believes the U.S. "wants to reach a final agreement" to end the conflict. Ukraine has offered its full backing for a peace deal that includes security guarantees.
"We are ready to discuss territorial issues in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions, but any agreement must include ironclad security guarantees for Ukraine," Zelensky said.
Trump has repeatedly claimed he could end the war quickly, though he has not specified how. The meeting represents a critical moment in the conflict, with both sides facing mounting pressure to find a diplomatic solution.
