Dubai has announced plans to construct the world's first street made entirely of gold, a spectacular addition to the newly launched Gold District that aims to cement the emirate's status as the global capital of luxury and precious metals trading. The ambitious project, revealed by the Dubai Media Office on January 27, represents the latest in a series of record-breaking attractions designed to draw tourists and investors from around the world.

The Gold Street will serve as the centerpiece of the Dubai Gold District, a comprehensive transformation of the historic Deira neighborhood that currently houses the famous Gold Souk. While specific details about the street's construction methods and dimensions have not been disclosed, officials confirmed it will be built using actual gold, creating an unprecedented attraction for visitors and jewelry enthusiasts alike.

Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, emphasized the cultural significance of the project, stating that gold is deeply woven into the cultural and commercial fabric of Dubai, symbolizing the emirate's heritage, prosperity, and enduring spirit of enterprise. The announcement reflects Dubai's continued commitment to pushing architectural and commercial boundaries in pursuit of global recognition.

The Gold District will consolidate the entire gold and jewelry value chain under one roof, bringing together more than 1,000 retailers alongside wholesale operations, bullion trading, and investment services. The development is supported by infrastructure including six new hotels offering over 1,000 guest rooms, designed to accommodate the influx of international buyers, tourists, and business visitors expected to flock to the district.

The project underscores the United Arab Emirates' position as a dominant force in global gold trade. During 2024-2025, the country exported approximately 53.41 billion dollars worth of gold to major trading partners including Switzerland, the United Kingdom, India, Hong Kong, and Turkey, positioning the UAE as the world's second-largest physical gold trading destination. The historic Gold Souk, which the new district will encompass and enhance, has long been a must-visit location for tourists exploring Dubai's Old Town, situated near traditional markets specializing in spices, perfumes, and antiques. The opening date for the Gold Street has not yet been announced, with authorities promising to unveil project plans and designs in phases.
