Sam Pang wins Gold Logie as Sam Neill receives posthumous honour

Australian comedian and television presenter Sam Pang won the Gold Logie for most popular personality on Australian television at the 66th TV Week Logie Awards in Sydney on Sunday night. The ceremony also honoured the late New Zealand actor Sam Neill with the award for best lead actor in a drama, giving the event its most poignant result alongside its top public-voted prize.

Pang prevailed over fellow nominees Ally Langdon, Julia Morris, Lisa Millar, Poh Ling Yeow, Robert Irwin and Todd Woodbridge. The result marked a change of role for Pang, who hosted the previous three Logie ceremonies but stepped away from presenting duties this year and attended as a nominee. Wildlife conservationist and television personality Robert Irwin hosted the broadcast.

Neill received the acting award for his performance in the legal drama The Twelve: Cape Rock Killer. The recognition came about a month after the Jurassic Park and The Piano star died aged 78, turning the category into a tribute to an actor whose work connected Australian and New Zealand screen industries with international cinema over several decades.

The ceremony took place at The Star Sydney and aired live on the Seven Network and its 7plus streaming service. Organisers had announced nominations in June, with popular categories determined by viewers and the wider awards programme combining audience recognition with industry assessment across drama, comedy, factual television, news, sport and entertainment.

The evening reflected the breadth of the Australian television market, with nominees drawn from free-to-air broadcasters, subscription services and global streaming platforms. Neill's posthumous win placed scripted drama at the emotional centre of the event, while Pang's Gold Logie demonstrated the continuing influence of comedy and panel television in a prize decided by public support.

The two headline awards will now frame the 2026 Logies: Pang moves from three-time ceremony host to the event's most popular personality, while Neill's final television work receives a major national accolade. Broadcasters and producers will use the results to promote the winning programmes, and the awards will remain an annual measure of both audience affection and industry achievement in Australian television.
