Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey has reached an estimated $1.1048 billion in worldwide ticket sales, making it the director's highest-grossing film without adjusting for inflation. The milestone followed the film's fourth weekend in theaters, when it added an estimated $31.5 million in the United States and Canada, according to studio figures reported Sunday by the Associated Press.
The Universal Pictures release has earned about $461.2 million domestically and $643.6 million internationally, current Box Office Mojo figures show. Its global total moved ahead of The Dark Knight Rises, which collected about $1.08 billion, and The Dark Knight, which reached roughly $1 billion. Nolan's 2023 drama Oppenheimer finished its theatrical run at about $975 million.
The Odyssey also established a large-format benchmark. The Associated Press reported that it had generated $147.3 million on IMAX screens in the United States and Canada, the highest domestic IMAX total for any release. The result extends a theatrical campaign built around premium screenings for Nolan's adaptation of Homer's ancient epic, with Matt Damon playing Odysseus.
The achievement arrived during an unusually strong period for cinemas. Rentrak data cited by the Associated Press put 2026 ticket sales 18.5 percent ahead of the same point last year. Five films have already crossed $1 billion globally, the most in a single year since 2019, while North American summer revenue stood only $14.8 million short of $4 billion through Sunday.
The figures remain studio estimates and final weekend totals were due Monday. The film also has a major territory still to enter, with its Chinese opening scheduled for Friday. That release gives The Odyssey another opportunity to extend Nolan's new career record and will test how much further the nearly three-hour, R-rated action-adventure can travel at the global box office.
