Taylor Swift released The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore on Friday, September 25, adding four newly recorded songs to her 2025 album. The expanded release arrived at midnight Eastern time in the United States, or 04:00 GMT, according to Reuters. Universal Music said the edition contains 16 tracks, combining the original 12 with the new material.
The original The Life of a Showgirl came out in October 2025. Universal Music said its first week generated 4.002 million album units in the United States, while Reuters reported that the album set a modern-era first-week sales record. The Encore returns to that album rather than introducing a separate studio record, giving listeners a revised version of a release that had already reached a large audience.
The four additions are Patient Zero, Cleveland!, Pink Clouding and Babylon, according to Universal Music's published track list. Reuters described Patient Zero as a song about a toxic relationship. The label lists the new tracks after the original album's closing song, which features Sabrina Carpenter, and places Patient Zero at track 13.
Swift said the new songs emerged from a trip to Sweden with producers Max Martin and Shellback, Reuters reported. According to Universal Music, the three initially traveled to mark the success of the original album but resumed writing after finding a studio nearby. The label said Swift connected the sessions to her gratitude for the reception the first release received from fans.
The next scheduled event is the premiere of the Patient Zero music video during MTV's Video Music Awards on Sunday, September 27, in Los Angeles. Universal Music said Swift directed the video, cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki filmed it, and actors Colin Farrell and Dakota Johnson appear in it. Reuters also reported that Swift is due to receive the ceremony's inaugural artist director honor.
The release puts four fresh tracks into an album whose commercial performance had already drawn attention across the music industry. Its immediate significance is the arrival of new music from one of pop's biggest artists, while the video premiere offers the next public presentation of the project. Further audience and chart results will become clear only after the expanded edition has been available for longer.
