The AI arrangement is one of several working-level steps announced after the leaders met, while broader disputes over technology and trade remain unresolved.
The channel could give officials a way to clarify what happened if an AI system causes an unexpected cross-border problem, but its effectiveness will depend on rules and regular use that have yet to be made public. Trump said Saturday that the United States would continue advancing its AI capabilities, according to the AP. The announcement therefore does not indicate a pause in the countries' technological competition.
The next scheduled AI dialogue, by November, is the clearest near-term test of the arrangement. Officials have not announced the channel's operators, response deadlines or scope.
