YouTube announced a broad set of artificial intelligence and platform changes at its Made on YouTube event in New York on Wednesday, September 23. The Google-owned video service said creators will get a conversational editing assistant, stronger identity protection and new production tools, while viewers will gain more ways to discover videos and shop. YouTube chief executive Neal Mohan said more than 20 million videos are uploaded to the platform each day, a measure of the scale at which the planned changes could operate.

The new editing assistant is designed for Shorts and the YouTube Create app. According to YouTube, a creator can describe an edit in ordinary language, receive a first draft and continue the conversation to refine it. Suggested actions include trimming pauses and rearranging clips to improve pacing. The company said creators will retain the option to edit manually. YouTube described the tools as part of a wider effort to simplify production and publishing rather than providing a single launch date for every feature.

YouTube also said Studio will offer personalized feedback on early drafts, generate thumbnails suited to a channel and let creators compare as many as three cuts of a video to see which retains viewers best. Its likeness detection system is coming to mobile devices, where creators will be able to enroll, receive match alerts and take action. The company plans to combine voice detection with facial matching to improve the system, which is intended to help creators identify unauthorized use of their image or voice.

For viewers, YouTube said it will introduce home-page feeds shaped by conversational prompts and saved for later use. It is also expanding Ask YouTube, its conversational search feature, into shopping advice. TechCrunch reported that the tool may organize product recommendations into comparison tables based on a viewer’s preferences and allow follow-up questions on a video page. These announcements place AI in both the creation of videos and the way audiences find products and information in them.

The company additionally announced real-time automatic dubbing for live streams and said it aims to expand its Shopping affiliate program to 35 countries by the end of 2026. YouTube said product tags can update to show local offers to viewers in different markets. Many of the features were presented as forthcoming or expanding, and the company did not give one worldwide availability date for the entire package. Their rollout will determine how widely creators and viewers can use them.
