Spider-Man: Brand New Day has surpassed $1 billion at the worldwide box office after six days in cinemas, according to Variety, making the Sony Pictures and Marvel release the second-fastest film ever to reach the milestone. Only Avengers: Endgame arrived there sooner, after collecting about $1.2 billion during its opening weekend in 2019.
The superhero film, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and led by Tom Holland, had earned about $407 million in the United States and Canada after four days and $645.8 million in international markets, Variety reported. Those figures put its global total at roughly $1.053 billion and extended an opening run that exceeded advance industry expectations.
AP reported that the film began with an estimated $927 million worldwide debut, including $355 million in North America and $572 million from more than 73,500 screens overseas. China contributed $121 million to the international launch. Final domestic data cited by Variety later placed the opening at about $360 million, a record for North America.
The release also set a record $47 million Monday in North America, surpassing the previous $40 million Monday mark held by Black Panther. Its $169.8 million opening day and $72 million in previews were also reported as records, while the film became the fastest release to pass $400 million in the domestic market.
Brand New Day is the fourth movie released in 2026 to cross $1 billion worldwide, after The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Michael and Toy Story 5. Variety said the four such releases already represent the highest annual total since the pandemic disrupted cinemas; no year after 2019 had previously produced more than three billion-dollar films.
The result strengthens a theatrical recovery supported by several large releases. Rentrak data cited by Variety put North American summer ticket sales at $3.579 billion through early August, within reach of $4 billion. The film remains in cinemas, so its final position among the year’s biggest releases will depend on audience demand during its second weekend and later international play.
